Expression Blend 2 December Preview now available

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Many of you probably noticed we released the new Expression Blend 2 December preview. I’ll add the ‘new feature’ list here very soon! but go uninstall, Blend 2 September Preview and get the new shiny December Preview Smile

We also released the Expression Blend 1 SP1 (Service Pack). If you have Blend 1 installed go here and download the update. This Service Pack will fix different bugs or issues that have been reported by the community. If you are using a Preview version of Blend 2 then you *do not* need to install this Service Pack.

As part of the Service Pack, the UE team also released an updated Online Documentation which you can download here.  Installing it can be a little tricky but the team has provided good info in the Download page. Check out the Instructions section in the Download page.

Firestarter event session

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

We had good times this Thursday at Building 33 with lots of folks who are interested in Silverlight. It was fun to be there presenting Silverlight Workflow. The session  assets are here. You can also get the mini Lotto application that we used to give away prizes during the event.

In this event everyone learned something new, me too. At some point in the presentation (when I showed Visual Studio for the first time) some one in the audience said, “hey, can you increase the size of your font? we cannot see the code back here!”… and of course since I never demo Visual Studio or code, I totally didn’t know how to “increase my font size”… was it something in Windows? but then a heavenly voice said: “You can do it in Visual Studio”… and of course I asked, how do you that?! and the heavenly voice said, just go to Options, Fonts… etc… and voila… from 10 or 11pts I was using I went up to 16 pts… like I said after this incident… “that’s what you get when you have a Designer using Visual Studio :)” … (Blend has a gorgeous Workspace Zoom feature that helps me do this easier hehe)…

Thanks everyone who attended the session. Thanks for the feedback about our tools and platform and for all the questions.

.NET Web Roadmap announced, Silverlight news

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Scott Guthrie has just posted very useful information for all of us regarding the roadmap… the future of the Microsoft .NET (for the Web). There are certainly interesting topics mentioned in there. Particularly the following:

- The release of the ASP.NET 3.5 Extensions… this is great news in particular for me, the availability of ASP.NET Silverlight support with controls that enable you to insert Silverlight content into your webpages in a super easy way.

- The rename of the Silverlight 1.1 to Silverlight 2. This is great news too since it simplifies terminology… instead of the typical Microsoft versions like 1.31 or 3.1 or 1.2.890 we we nice and clean integer numbers… much easier to remember. It’s part of this “less is more” culture which definitely provides a better understanding for our customers.
